Everything you need to know about the Mediterranean weather
If you have already traveled to the Mediterranean, you have probably noticed that weather in this area is especially nice. Why is it? The Mediterranean climate is a variant of the subtropical climate. As you can imagine, this climate occurs in the regions near the Mediterranean Sea, such as Spain, Italy or Greece. Whether you are planning to rent a cheap apartment in Barcelona or you are planning to stay some days in the Greek islands, you will definitely love the climate.
Warm and humid
The Mediterranean climate has generally warm temperatures. Areas like Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey or Morocco enjoy a pleasant climate all year round.
The areas near the sea present a very high humidityindex, especially during the summer months. That’s why, even if it may not be as hot as in the interior areas, the Mediterranean shore usually offers a bigger heat sensation due to this high humidity. Sometimes it can get a little bit suffocating depending on the months so taking a nice bath in the sea is always a good idea.
Autumns are usually very rainy all the time. Actually, we can say it’s practically the only time of the year we can have some rain, so people receive these rains with a lot of joy. At the end of the day we need rain at some point of the year. These rains usually come with a change on temperatures, which tend to go slowly down during these dates.
Winters are usually warm, obviously not as warm as summer but still quite soft comparing to other areas. If you are coming from the north of Europe, for example, you will be totally amazed with how nice the winter can feel in the Mediterranean. Anyway, there are some cold waves sometimes too. Even more, in certain areas, specially in the interior or high in the mountains, it can even get to snow at this time of the year.
Spring is the most pleasant and beautiful time of the year in the areas of the Mediterranean climate. The good weather begins and the temperatures rise, specially in the interior areas, but without reaching the suffocating atmosphere of the summer days. During this time of the year some momentary rain can also surprise us.
Hot and dry summer
Summers are quite hot and dry throughout the area, with very high temperatures in the interior areas, surpassing the 35-40 degrees sometimes. Generally, there are great droughts that cause many damages to the fauna and the earth.
During the summer months, due to the high temperatures, a great desertization and dryness of the earth takes place, which favors the forest fires, causing the loss of the ground that will can back to lifewith the autumn rains.
