To Rent as a house

We would like to welcome you to the tranquil setting of the Sierra de Castril, an unspoilt and relatively unknown tourist area which adjoins the more well known Sierra de Cazorla.

Located 1.5kms above the Village of Castril, Paz Y Calma is in a stunning location overlooking the mountains and valley and are appealing to those looking for something a little different in a holiday. For those interested in the great outdoors, such as walking, mountain biking/road cycling, back packing, hiking, rambling, climbing, bird-watching, photography, painting, archaeology, history or watersports (June to September) you will find plenty to do.

We are therefore pleased to offer the flexibility of renting the whole ground floor accommodation for up to 8 people for larger families or groups (over 25 years only please). The rooms are well furnished with modern fittings, but with a rustic feel of white walls and traditional shutters to keep warmth in during the winter days, and the sun out (if so wished) to keep the rooms cooler during the summer days.

The price will include all utilities (inc. fire wood from Nov - Mar), bed linen and towels. Breakfast is not available when renting the whole accommodation.

To keep everyone cool during the summer months, we have an above ground 10ft metal framed pool available from June to September.

A barbeque is available when renting the whole accommodation (being in a Natural Park we are subject to restrictions during the summer months (possibly June to September) and the barbeque would be need to be removed at this time). There is plenty of parking available in our communal car park

Small Request: Smoking is not permitted inside the accommodation. However, guests are welcome to smoke on the terrace outside.

On arrival, for those booking the whole accommodation, you will receive a welcome pack, which will include things to do in the area, along with directions and times to destinations. We will also provide you with a fresh bowl of fruit (when available), a bottle of water, tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a loaf of white bread.

Paz Y Calma is a family-run Bed and Breakfast inn and offers 2 double rooms and 2 twin rooms a sun terrace and garden looking out over the Valley. Behind us are the mountains of the Sierra de Castril. On clear days views stretch towards the Jablacon and onto the Sierra Nevada. Paz Y Calma is located 1.5kms above the Picturesque village of Castril set back in the mountainside and makes a great location for a rural retreat.

B&B "Paz Y Calma" is self contained and located on the ground floor. We live above the accommodation, giving guests the freedom to come and go as they like but we are always on hand for any questions, advice or just for a drink and a chat.

The village of Castril is a 15 minute walk downhill where you can enjoy tapas (a little free appetizer that is served with beer) free of charge in the few bars. There are also a couple local restaurants and several small shops, as well as two banks. Alternatively, Huescar and Baza make a good day out for shopping. Alternatively you can go hiking along trails or cycling in the nearby Sierra de Castril/Sierra de Cazorla.

A cot can be provided free of charge in double rooms

Traditional Shutters in place to keep the heat out during the summer months. Electric heaters are available for those colder evenings and winter days. Fans are available during the summer

Please note that bathrooms will be shared if we are fully booked. We have one full sized bathroom which consists of bath, shower, bidet, washbasin and toilet. The other is a shower room which consists of shower, washbasin and toilet.

Overnight Stays

Looking at houses in the area. No problem, we can provide you with one or more nights and send you on your way with a healthy meal inside you!

Couples; Perhaps you would like to experience a romantic weekend break to get away from it all. Contact us for availability and a welcome pack to include a bottle of Champagne and a box of chocolates.

Families

Our accommodation is ideal if you have children. Mum and dad can have the privacy of their own room while they can sleep across the hall in safety. We also have a selection of games available to keep them happy, as well as a selection of videos and books. We have a selection of games available to keep your children happy and they are welcome to sit in the lounge and watch a film during the summer months if it is too warm for them outside.

General

An Ironing Board and Iron will be available for guests to use.

What you eat and drink and where you have it is down to you. Breakfast can be included in your price or you may stay on a "room only" basis if you prefer. Breakfast can be eaten on the terrace during the summer months/or in the lounge if you prefer. Sit back, read a book and enjoy the peace and quiet whilst taking in the tremendous views. During the cooler months we serve breakfast in the lounge. Which will be a Continental breakfast with tea/coffee & orange juice.

Evening Meals

We do not currently offer evening meals but are able to recommend restaurants serving a variety of food for lunch and evening meals (children are most welcome in all restaurants in Spain). We can also arrange to take and collect you to enable you to enjoy the local drinks in the nearby village.

If you want to take a stroll down to the village in the evening for a drink or evening meal, and don't want the uphill walk home, we will be happy to collect you up until 11.30pm (if we are able to do so).

We have a small above ground pool which will be place from the end of June to September 2006, approximately 14 ft in diameter. The pool is located on our new enclosed private terrace and can be used by guests and our family jointly. It is more for cooling off in than anything else - but welcomed by all during the hot summer months.....

Castril is extremely safe and encourages children to get back to nature with many things to do without having to cost a fortune! Walks in the natural park are fantastic. Take a picnic and swimming gear and they will be happy jumping in and out of the river, diving for rocks and looking for fish! The best thing about the area even in the middle of July or August is that children can roam about freely in the fresh air without parents having to worry about them.

The lakes warm up and the children enjoy a swim in one of the many swimming pools or the lakes and river all of which remain pleasantly quiet....This makes it a great alternative from the busy coastal resorts where you are constantly having to look after your shoulder to check they are safe.

Fishing Factoria where young and old can enjoy trout fishing.

Local Pools / Parks and BBQ areas

A trip to the coast is a pleasant change - Mojacar offers the traditional coastal day out but is less busy than the Costa del Sol or Almeria and still possesses the white village and traditional Spanish traditions.

Vera which is 1.5hrs from us has a fantastic Water Park which makes a great day out. Guests from last year recommended it. Open May 13th until September.

Granada also 1.5hrs has the following for a day out:

Water Park AQUAOLA Aqua Park. Granada offers a Science Museum with interactive hands on gadgets for kids. Ten Pin Bowling as well as McDonalds for the youngsters!!

Almeria which is approximately 1.5 hours from here offers "Mini Hollywood" a Theme Park based on the studios of where the early Clint Eastwood films were made....Another great day out.

Castril lies in the province of Granada, in the Andalucian part of Southern Spain, on the A326 between Pozo Alcon and Huescar, which is to the north of the excellent A92 dual carriageway running between Granada and Murcia. Castril is about 45km north of Baza, the nearest major city to be found on most maps of Spain. The nearest cities to Castril is about Granada (around 1.5 - 2hrs), Murcia (around 2.5hrs). For the more British costal resorts Almeria is approximately 2hrs) and further South, is Torremolinos, Marbella etc.(2.5hrs).
